Efficient Soft De-Lumping and Homogenization of Crude Powder
Quadro Co-mill technology is mainly used to remove lumps and homogenize the crude powder from a filter or vacuum tray dryer. The powder is fed into a conical sieve grid with defined diameter holes. The powder is pushed through the conical sieve thanks to an impeller located inside the conical sieve rotating at a limited speed.
This process can be applied whenever a soft de-lumping treatment is necessary, and a limited impact on the original primary particles must be guaranteed. An increase of heat during the sieving flow of the powder through the cone sieve is foreseen; therefore, this technology cannot be applied to a product with a low melting point. Any powder with a melting point below 100° C has to be tested and carefully monitored during the process to avoid the melting effect before the powder can pass through the conical sieve.
The output quality of the powder coming out from the Quadro Co-mill process can be controlled in a very general way only by selecting the preferred diameter for the conical sieve; or, with a more precise set-up, by controlling the feed rate of the powder going through the sieve, the speed of the impeller and the diameter of the conical sieve.
This Co-milling process can be implemented as a standalone or pre-milling step to prepare the powder for the following micronization activity.
